A special Charleston day for a sweet birthday girl
Y’all, it’s better late than never on this one – for two weeks now, I’ve been trying to get around to posting about the girls’ day that Kay & Co did for the sweetest birthday girl, Mara, near the end of May.
Mara asked me in April to plan a girls’ day out for her and a few friends; I was, of course, happy to oblige and got started making plans right away. Mara knew she wanted to do something outdoorsy, and she also wanted to do a flower crown class -– I took it from there to orchestrate the perfect celebratory day for Mara and her girls.
Given my love for brunch, a big part of Kay & Co is incorporating the best meal of the week into as many days and weekends as possible. It was an obvious first step to kick Mara’s day off with brunch at one of my favorite local spots, Five Loaves Café.
(Find out why I love Five Loaves.)
I stopped by Five Loaves early on Sunday morning to drop off boxes and treats for the group – I had spent some time earlier in the week putting together some whimsical boxes for the girls, packed with things they would need for the day as well as some fun birthday treats. For every day and weekend that Kay & Co plans, we personalize our party boxes; for Mara’s group, based on what they were doing that day, I tossed in some adorable champagne glasses that would come in handy for their evening picnic, crowns to wear during brunch so everyone would know they were celebrating, snacks to hold them over while kayaking, mimosa-scented candles from Charleston Candle Co to remember their day, and macaroons from ABCD Cake Make because macaroons are always necessary.
The girls arrived around noon, greeted by their party boxes and carafes of mimosas. They donned their crowns and got ready for a day of celebrating Mara! After wrapping up a delicious brunch, the group zipped over to nearby Shem Creek and got ready to kayak.
We were truly lucky that it was an absolutely beautiful Charleston day; the girls were able to explore Shem Creek with their guide before taking a quick break to enjoy the snacks that I had packed for them. After a few hours out on the water, they dried off, said goodbye to their guide, and headed downtown to Hampton Park, where I had set up a picnic blanket and more treats for the girls to enjoy.
The cherry on top of Mara’s birthday was a flower crown class with Lori of Petaloso, complete with picnic treats and wine – I even tossed in a few birthday candles for Mara’s besties to be able to sing to her. The girls crafted their crowns and cheers-ed to Mara before heading home with their birthday boxes and flowers as souvenirs.
I was so happy to be able to make Mara’s girls’ day out extra special and I can’t wait to make it happen for more lovely ladies in Charleston and beyond! Kay & Co can make your day or weekend anything you want it to be – whether it’s a little planning or a lot, we’ll give your bachelorette party, birthday weekend, or girls’ trip that extra-special touch that you know you deserve. Let’s party!
Xoxo,
