 Favorite ROOFTOPS

The #1 way to view the #1 city!

photo: “Best Rooftop Bars in Downtown Charleston”, Charleston Guru

Uptown Social

Uptown Social is full of energy and is the perfect place to go for day drinking or dancing under the stars to a number of amazing DJs! This is an upscale sports bar that offers delicious bar snacks and fun frozen drinks, which you can enjoy on the rooftop or their spacious two-story inside venue. Uptown even hosts local exercise classes from time to time, so you can work off all of those pizza bites you ate the night before. I love coming here and watching a game or dancing my heart out (since you might as well be exercising while you drink). Definitely worth a visit and has a big, fun crowd late in the evening.

The satellite BAR @ STARS

This might be a hot take according to some locals, but I love Stars. Some of my best Charleston memories have been made on a Sunday Funday after brunch, lounging at Stars & drinking mimosas like it’s my job (which it is, because research). In the evenings, they’ve got a legit happy hour, & it gets rowdy after dark — perfect for those of you who are ready to hit it hard for your weekend of celebration.

Pour Taproom

Pour taproom has a unique system of ‘pay for what you pour.’ Basically you pour yourself however much of whatever you want and you pay for exactly that. No more buying another beer and only wanting half of it! This is perfect if like trying different varieties of beer (they have 40 local craft beers, wines, and ciders to choose from). Order a plate of nachos for the table and take in views of Chucktown’s highest rooftop bar! You can find Pour Taproom located on top of Hyatt Place Charleston right on King Street. Play games, pet some ‘Pour Pups’ and enjoy the view!

The Citrus club

Another one of the best views in Charleston can be seen from the rooftop of The Dewberry, which is where The Citrus Club can be found! Head over to the elevators, where a member of The Dewberry will provide a key to access the 8th floor. You’ll notice a Spritz or spicy coconut marg in everyones hands while they admire the views on a comfy sofa. The rooftop also offers some tasty bites, like loaded fries, hummus, lobster rolls, burgers, etc. The Citrus Club operates on a first come, first served basis, so head over there early!

One of Charleston’s most upscale rooftops can be found at the Market Pavilion Hotel. Wine & Company

Best cheese + charcuterie plate in town! Need I say more? Probably not, but I will: the staff is also incredible & the vibe makes everyone feel welcome. We love Wine & Co for their private wine tastings, suited to your tastes — perfect for your first night in Charleston to set the mood for the weekend. This cozy space also offers weekly wine tastings every Tuesday 5:30-7:30 pm. Bonus: our bachelorettes are in love with Wine and Co’s charcuterie boards for a extra treat on our bubbly bars!

Located a bit further up King Street near some of our favorite restaurants (Leon’s & Little Jack’s, ahem), Graft is a spacious, hip wine shop perfect for grabbing a few bottles to go or staying for a glass or two. Uncork charleston

A fun twist on a classic wine bar, Uncork Charleston allows you to taste various wines by having self serve wine taps (similar to Pour Taproom). When you walk in the door the host/hostess will start you a tab on one of their key cards. Once this is done, you can look through the cases to see which wine you want to try first and place the card into the tap, then simply select your pour size! Not only is this a fun way to try new wines, but the charcuterie here is top tier! Uncork Charleston would make the perfect stop before or after dinner. They usually have live music on the weekends too!

Island Provisions

Island Provisions is a fine neighborhood market and gathering place with two locations in South Carolina: Johns Island and Downtown Charleston. CALLIE’S HOT LITTLE BISCUIT

Charleston has been blessed with not one, but two Callie’s HLB locations, one on Upper King (this will be closer to your Airbnb) & another on Market Street in case you need a biscuit sandwich during your walking tour of Charleston. We can’t speak highly enough of this female-founded eatery — the biscuits come in a huge variety & our pro-tip is to get a few of the minis rather than being forced to commit to just one flavor. Get a box delivered to your Airbnb for at-home brunch or a midnight snack, bring a box on your charter boat, or just grab a few while you’re walking down King — you won’t regret it.

sugar bakeshop

Hands down the cutest bakeshop in Charleston! Sugar is a small batch made from scratch bakeshop, so when a flavor is sold out then that’s it for the day. They have everything from cookies to cupcakes (even gluten free and vegan options). Sugar has year round flavors, but switches things up with a few specialty seasonal treats! You’ll see different options every time you stop in. If you see something you love, but have an idea for a twist, Sugar can do custom-made orders as well. Sugar does carry mini cakes, which we think are just the cutest things! They’d be perfect for a party or if you’re just in the mood for a teeny tiny treat. Our fave treat? Well, we’re torn between the vanilla blueberry and caramel cupcake, so you should probably order both…just to be safe.

Harken cafe

A cozy establishment with country-chic vibes. Harken has both indoor and outdoor seating, but it’s a pretty popular spot these days, so we do suggest getting there early! Unplug in one of Harken’s nooks over avocado toast or a southern biscuit, which are all made from the finest low country ingredients.

Now with two locations, The Daily is our absolute favorite! Both locations offer a wide selection of locally made items to showcase the talent in the South. At the Daily, you’ll find healthy juices, strong coffee, breakfast toasts, fresh bread and eggs, plus pastries, smoothies, wine, and snacks to go. Pop into the King St location for a quick snack (there’s not a ton of seating), then wander down King Street. If you’re in a hurry or heading to the airport, use their order-ahead feature — you won’t be disappointed! If you’re not in a rush, enjoy your avocado toast and iced coffee at one of their outdoor tables.

Carmella’s offers all the things when it comes to sweets. Most of their desserts are pretty large, so we recommend getting a few and everyone sharing. They can also accomodate groups up to 20, but make sure you call ahead and reserve far in advance, much like the other go-to spots in Charleston. They offer reservations, which we recommend taking advantage of. This restaurant does change it’s menu seasonly, which means that the food is constantly changing with new and fresh picks!

hall’s chophouse

Hall’s is known for the upscale fine dining experience that they provide to their guests and for being the steakhouse in Charleston. Heads up: the menu can be a bit pricey, but the dishes are truly to die for and Halls’ ambiance is next-level. If it’s your first time at the steakhouse, a server will come to the table with a fancy display of steaks and explain the story behind all of them (soo VIP!). We can’t emphasize how superior the service is at Hall’s! If nothing else, head to Hall’s on Sunday for their Gospel Brunch which is always a good time!

southbound

Southbound just opened their doors in 2023 and we couldn’t be more thrilled! They’re located right by all of our fave AirBnBs too, making it just a hop, skip, + jump to some delicious food and cocktails! Southbound’s menu changes daily. It’s important to note that the restaurant can only accommodate parties of 6 or less due to the intimate seating. Some call Soutbound a “wood-fire-fueled treasure”. Make a reservation ASAP to see what the buzz is all about in this vintage Charleston home-turned-restaurant!

Some of our fave places to grab a bite and/or drink on Sullivan’s Island + Isle of Palms!

photo: @charlestonguru

the co-op frosé + eatery

The Co-Op is one of the coolest spots in all of Charleston! They’re known for their all pink branding (keep an eye out for their hot pink Moke or Jeep outside), giving off all of the fun and flirty vibes needed for a good time! Aside from frozen rosé, The Co-Op also has $1 coffee and tasty food options for breakfast or lunch.

photo: @theobstinatedaughter

the obstinate daughter

We recommend making a reservation far ahead of time at The Obstinate Daughter because of how popular it is. It’s a Southern restaurant, but influenced by French, Italian, and Spanish cuisine. You can order anything ranging from pizza and pasta to seafood with their raw bar! Check out their ‘gram when reviewing the menu because their pics are up close and personal, showing exactly what’s on the menu!

photo: @mex1coastalcantina

mex 1 coastal cantina

Grab some chips + guac before heading to the beach! Mex 1 serves light and fresh dishes with the freshest flavors. They only use 100% agave tequila and each of their margs are exceptionally tasty because they’re bade with freshly squeezed juices. Swing by after calling in some take-out or have a seat to enjoy a taco or salad with a refreshing drink!

photo: @saltcowboys

Saltwater cowboys

While Saltwater isn’t right on Sullivan’s Island, its just a short drive (5 mins) away! It’s right on the water and boats are docking up to grab a bite during all hours of the day. You may even see a dolphin or two in Shem Creek if you’re sitting by the dock! You’ve got to try their trash can nachos; they’re the best and everyone can snack on them.

Sips + bites at folly beach

Some of our fave places to grab a bite and/or drink over at Folly Beach!

photo: @ritasfollybeach

Rita’s Seaside Grille

Just a walk across the street from the beach and you will find Rita’s Seaside Grille! This restaurant is owned and operated by the Halls Management Group, who has an outstanding reputation, so you know the food + service will be 10/10! They have live music on their patio, so you can enjoy some tunes while eating a burger or the infamous Halls Chopped Salad! Rita’s has a brunch on Saturdays & Sundays; however, we do recommend getting there early, because the wait for this spot can get long pretty quick!

2 Center St | website | instagram

photo: @bohemianbullchs

Bohemian Bull

You’re definitely going to want to check out this spot on your way to the beach!! Bohemian Bull has some of the most creative + tasty cocktails in town. They are constantly releasing new cocktails. If there’s one thing that I would recommend as a must eat, it’s the mac & cheese bites!! Fried to perfection and served with the tastiest dipping sauce.

lost dog cafe

If you’re for a laid back beach cafe, then this is the place for you! Lost Dog Cafe is open as early as 6:30 AM for those early risers in the group. Don’t worry they stay open til 3:00 PM for those who don’t like to wake up early. They offer a wide selection of breakfast items and have a few lunch items as well. Lost Dog is pet friendly, so don’t forget to bring along those furry companions! BTW, their walls are covered with framed photos of dogs.

leon’s oyster shop

For parties of 6-12, Leon’s has two large-party tables in their main dining room and you’ll be able to order off of the main menu. Make sure you reach out a few months in advance, though — they get booked quickly! For parties of 13 - 15, reserve the covered/heated back patio at Leon’s + they’ll get you set up with a family-style menu that is super delicious + also super easy to split when the bill comes. Reach out to Carissa at events@leonsoystershop.com for all the details.

tavern + table

Known for it’s location along Shem Creek in Mt Pleasant, Tavern and Table is the perfect spot for any size group! They have a designated room for larger parties. You just have to give them a call in advance about using it. We’re big fans of their brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. They have some of our favorite brunch cocktails and offer live music on Saturdays! Once you’re done at Tavern and Table all you have to do is take a quick stroll next door or across the creek to your next spot for a drink.

rancho lewis

At Rancho Lewis, “it’s border-food-meets-cowboy cookin’”! This is the best spot to grab chips + guac with a large group, as Rancho Lewis is located at a food court type of location and has plenty of outdoor seating for everyone (eating just about anywhere)! However, if your large party (13+) wants to sit at the restaurant, you can easily reserve online. Rancho Lewis will work with your group to set a customizable, prix fixe menu.

church + union

Located along Charleston’s historic market street area, Church + Union is the perfect spot for a quick drink before dinner or a great Sunday brunch spot! The inside of this restaurant is breathtaking. We recommend popping in just to see the interior decor! The building was previously a church and the restaurant repurposed the property while keeping the history in place, like the original stained glass windows and hardwood floors!

photo: @frannieandthefox

frannie + the fox

One of our absolute favorites is Frannie & The Fox, located inside the divine Emeline Hotel in the heart of the Charleston City Markets. It’s the perfect place to stop for some delicious wood-fired Italian food after a long day of strolling through the markets and exploring the endless (no really we mean endless) shops Charleston has to offer! They have a beautiful patio area which is perfect for any group, whether you are sitting down for a full meal, or just stopping by with the girls for some drinks and snacks during their happy hour!

Home team bbq

With 4 locations in the Charleston area (downtown, Mt. Pleasant, West Ashley, and Sullivan’s Island), this is a great spot for drinks or cheering on your favorite sports team while watching a game! Each location has just a slightly different menu. Their main focus is BBQ, but the different restaurants put their twist on some of the items. Home Team is famously known for their frozen drink, the gamechanger, which is why we recommend taking an Uber!

rainbow row

Rainbow Row is hands-down Charleston’s #1 spot for the perfect picture to capture your trip! Rainbow Row consists of 13 brightly colored historic homes near The Battery. We recommend taking a few close up pictures in front of the house, but take a step back or even across the street to get the full view. There are a ton of ways to be creative at this spot!

American theater

You might recognize this theater from a well known movie, The Notebook. That’s right, this is the theater where Ali and Noah go on their first date! If you’re a fan of the Notebook then we definitely suggest making a stop by the theater!

Pineapple fountain

The Pineapple Fountain is located in the center of Waterfront Park. The reason for it’s name? Because it looks exactly like a pineapple! If you are looking for a classic Charleston picture then this the spot. Charleston is known for it’s hospitality industry, which is what a pineapple represents. One of Kay and Co’s own employees was proposed to in front of this fountain, so it holds a special place in our hearts!

Take in the beautiful views of all that the city has to offer and get a workout in at the same time! The Cooper River Bridge stretches across the Cooper River and connects downtown to Mt. Pleasant. The bridge is about 2.5 miles long, but has an area to sit and rest if needed! Every year, about 40K runners meet in CHS to run over this bridge in a 10K race, so it’s a pretty popular spot to get those steps in! If you’re staying downtown, head towards the Cigar Factory (parking) and you’ll see the bridge’s walk/bike lane across the street. If you’re on the other side in Mt. Pleasant, start at Mt.
